Retro Kitchen is the third episode of Ball And Wall, a free brick breaker game you play in your web browser, and the first one in pixel art. Your paddle is a rolling pin, the ball is a tomato and the blocks are food: eggs, burgers, fish, cheese and cakes. There are 15 rounds in five places, from a home kitchen through a food truck, a sushi bar and a pizzeria to a bakery.

Here you do not have to break every block. Each round has a recipe on the wooden board on the left, with three or four dishes. You cook the dishes one by one, in the order of the recipe, and the round is won when the recipe is done.

What is special in Retro Kitchen

  • An ingredient needs two hits: the first one cuts it (cracks the egg, slices the bun, peels the potato), the second one cooks it (fries, bakes, boils). Then its dish falls.
  • Catch the dish with the rolling pin. In the order of the recipe it is a step done and 100 points times the step; a dish out of order costs a point, so let it fall.
  • A finished recipe gives 1000 points, and 10 more for every second under two minutes.
  • From round 2 there is rotten food: its rot falls, and catching it costs a point and brings trouble. From round 5 a kitchen obstacle (a pot, a sushi plate, a pizza peel, a mixing bowl) goes from side to side and cannot be broken.
  • The bonuses are food too: chili makes a fire ball, cherries give three balls, honey makes the ball stick, and garlic, an espresso or a steaming pot make life harder.

How to play

Move the paddle with the mouse, the touchpad, your finger or the left and right arrow keys. Release the ball with the space bar, Enter or a click. Cook the recipe on the left to win the round: hit the ingredients and catch their dishes in order. Every special block, every power-up of this episode and what comes in which round are on the how to play Retro Kitchen page; the general rules are on the how to play page.
